This is a device that is intended to detect if there is a concussion injury, for instance in sports people during a match. It works in a similar way to a COVID test, using saliva which is internally analysed and a test result is seen through a window in the device. It was designed in conjunction with the client.

My work covered the steps from concept to manufacture:

- Concept ideas

- Liaison with clinicians, laboratory experts, moulders and the clients

- CAD design development

- Design for manufacture

The first order is for 5,150,000 units this year

Concussion testing device

The design involved substantial development in conjunction with other parties involved in the technical aspects.

The device works by inserting a swab with saliva, which is then processed inside the device and analysed with special chemicals.

The dimensions of the device have to be very accurate and top quality engineering plastics are used for its manufacture.

The cap is screwed into the device to squeeze the saliva out of the swab.

CAD development with attention to fine detailing and accuracy.

Working prototype for testing. It is translucent so that technicians can see what happens inside during tests.
