CLIENT REQUIREMENT:
Product Design Engineer needed to consult/re-design plastic baby teether.
***It is essential that the Product Design Engineer have a deep understanding of the properties, strengths and weaknesses of various plastics, silicones and elastomers for manufacture, and how they will perform in 2 step injection molding manufacturing processes***
I am developing a baby teether for retail, and am collaborating closely with a manufacturer to bring the idea to life. However, I need an experienced Product Design Engineer to help solve some challenges around best materials to use for manufacturing and functionality.
The product is made of plastic substrates, with living hinges. These substrates will then be overmolded with food-grade silicone to create the teether. The substrates must be strong, robust and the living hinges must have a long working life. The challenge is finding the best substrate/overmold materials that can be manufactured together, not compromising the end product.
I need an experienced engineer that understands:
1) The properties, strengths and weaknesses of various plastics, silicones and elastomers for manufacture, and how they will perform in 2 step manufacturing processes.
2) That has a good knowledge of living hinges and clasp mechanisms made out of plastic.
3) That understands injection molding manufacture and can keep the requirements/limitations of this in mind at all times when consulting/designing this product
4) I need someone that can think creatively, offer honest opinions and best options and help me design this product to be fully functional. This may require out-of-the-box thinking, which my manufacturer isn't able to provide
